Unmanned System Research Institute will build an interdisciplinary discipline of unmanned system science and technology with distinctive characteristics, form a perfect talent training system for unmanned systems, build a collaborative talent training mode for industry-academia-research-application, build a number of distinctive scientific research platforms, create an "International Conference on Intelligent Unmanned System", lead the domestic development in the field of unmanned systems, and strive to build the first-class domestic and internationally renowned Unmanned System Research Institute.
In 2018, the Institute led the establishment of the first interdisciplinary "Intelligent Unmanned System Science and Technology" of our university, which was separately included in the admissions guide in 2019 and became the key graduate admissions major of the Institute. This discipline was officially approved as a first-level doctoral degree authorization point in 2022.
The interdisciplinary discipline focuses on the common technologies at the levels of basic theory, key technology, and technical application of intelligent unmanned systems. The research is summarized as following directions: design of intelligent unmanned systems, autonomous theory and technology of intelligent unmanned systems, application engineering of intelligent unmanned systems, and sociology of intelligent unmanned systems.
The Institute actively implements the concept of "small core and large periphery" faculty construction, establishes a diversified talent introduction, education, and evaluation mechanism and forges a team of high-quality, professional, and innovative teachers. The Institute has 52 faculty members, including 29 full-time academic staffs, 13 full-time research engineers, 2 postdoctoral research fellows(1 from overseas). These faculty members include 9 full-time doctoral supervisors, 32 master supervisors, 8 national talents and field experts, and 7 provincial and ministerial talents. In addition, through the diversified talent introduction plan and talent sharing mechanism, the Institute has hired a group of scholars from famous domestic and foreign universities and experts from enterprises and institutions as part-time professors or supervisors.
The Institute has always advocated the international school philosophy, made great efforts to promote foreign cooperation.As a result, 2 distinguished experts of academicians of the European Academy of Sciences and the national "QR plan", respectively, 6 young returnees talents , and 1 foreign postdoctoral research fellow were introduced. 6 influential international conferences and forums were successfully held.
Vision of international exchanges and cooperation: in the future, the Institute will effort to broaden the field of international cooperation and establish an international cooperative relationship network. Look forward to strengthening cooperation with world-class universities in the field of intelligent unmanned systems, additive manufacturing, micro-nano sensing control, etc., to carry out scientific research project cooperation, academic exchange, talent training, and faculty introduction, also to improve discipline construction capabilities and expand international influence. In the next five years, 1-2 Chinese-foreign cooperative school running projects will be involved, and 3-5 teachers will be recommended to work in international organizations. Furthermore, the proportion of students going abroad for exchange should be more than 30%, and 5-8 young teachers will be selected for overseas training.
